"Angels" have participaterd with $2.9M, including my personal $500,000+ and Sanmina-Sci, the world's second largest contract electronic manufacturer has a 56% equity stake as a result of $3.6M IN-KIND investment.  Total raised $6.5M.

Seeking immediate funding to conduct a test program with Coca-Cola in South Brazil in Walmart and Zafira the two largest supermarket chains controlling 70% market share. Need $150,000 from probably private equity.

With success of the Coca-Cola program we need $7M to expand throughout Latin and South America. Then another $25M to enter India, China, Asia, Europe and Australia, etc. which will probably come from V.C.'s.

Response:

This is quite an interesting subject. When I decided to start this business, I had to think about how I would fund it. The main problem being that I am starting on a low budget. decisions had to be made - Do I look for an angel? Do I ask family? Do I go to my bank?

I had heard many horror stories - partners running off with money, relations left penniless, angels who promised the world and gave hell. So I was very skeptical.

I had 2 choices - Get some additional and effectively double my starting capital, or try and go it alone with what I have.

I took the second choice - What has it meant?

It has meant that I have to maximise networking possibilities, look for cheap advertising, and above all work towards getting customers quickly. And this has been a very good learning experience. I have been forced to find every possible free or very cheap avenue to get my company out there. My best return by far has come from Linked In, although it is the one I have worked the hardest. With my website, I asked a multitude of companies for quotes to design, and they ranged from 2000 to 8000 Euros. I did it myself (yes it is basic) for FREE. I have done advertising with google ads where you only pay for clicks to your site. I have made a strenuous effort to keep travel costs down, use Skype and built my office at home.

So I havent got much money, but I have finessed some very important business practices in terms of keeping expenditure down.

What I do recommend, regardless of whether you have funding or not, is to follow the best money saving practices you can. If you do have funding your "helper" should see this very positively and as responsible. From a personal point of view you should also be satisfied.

The fact I didnt take funding has an up-side and a down-side. The up-side is if I lose it all nobody is hurt, and I owe nothing to no-one. The downside means that I effectively have half the time to make my business self-sufficient than if I had taken funding.

My BlackBerry is only two months old and I'm still playing around with all the features. However, I have discovered all the free downloads from BlackBerry like Pandora, Poynt etc. I'm really enjoying this new phone. But I feel BlackBerry is the first phone that really works for me and my business. I can keep tabs on my clients without a $30,000 human secretary. I do a backup almost everyday.

Now that its saved me $30,000 in having to pay another human being, I can use that to put back into my company. I am thrilled to have all the information at my fingertips almost anywhere I go thanks to 3G and wi-fi. On some days, I no longer carry a 10lb laptop or take a separate mp3 player. All I need is my BlackBerry and I'm good to go anywhere! This is the start of a beautiful company! ROTFLOL!

We use the iPhone and the Blackberry. The only reason we don't all use the iPhone is just the expense of replacing the other devices. I have found my experience with the iPhone to be so outstanding that I invested in a Mac. I thought, if they can do all of this with a phone what have they done to the computer? I think they stay on top of things and will continually improve the device and everyone else will always be trying to keep up and compete. I am a big fan of the iPhone.

As for use in our business, it is just so easy and intuitive to use. Training is almost unnceccessary. It can do everything we need and probably more that we haven't discovered yet.

I use the iPhone.  I have used Windows based, Symbian and Blackberry devices.  I find that the iPhone offers several advantages: 1) One device, not ten.  I love that when I travel locally, I have my phone, music, entertainment, web, email, contacts, GPS, Satellite Radio, Camera, Camcorder, and Social and Professional Networking on one device.  2) Given the added security of 3G, 3GS, Mobile Me and VPN, I feel safe with my device and it's data.  If you have one of the above devices, look at Cell Phone Superhero from httP://YouGetItBack.com for similar security including recovery, lock down an replacement of the hardware and data.  3) It is so easy to share contact information and use applications for business to complete transactions, write proposals, and send updates on my work with clients.

I know many see the Blackberry as THE business device.  However, I had to replace 3 blackberry devices while traveling due to malfunction.  I have had the iPhone longer than any other device.  Proof that the simple elegance sometimes is the best solution.

I use neither. Personally, I like Samsung products & have a Samsung Jet S8003 which suits my purposes as for business, as a designer & photographer perfectly. Its processing speed is super fast with 800 MHz processor making it a joy to multi-task at speed. With 2 gig on board memory & the capacity for a 32gig micro SD card it has more than enough memory.

It is limited in that it doesn't have some of the business apps that iPhones & Blackburries have, but I don't need or use them on a phone anyway. Impressive quality 5 megapixel camera & amazing video functionality & quality, its all touch screen makes for a real nice phone. For marketing on social media &  its internet abilities are superb.

The Jet’s 3.1" AMOLED display with WVGA (480 x 800) resolution is remarkable, and watching video on the go is a real treat with excellent colour and contrast. Wi-Fi, 3G HSDPA and A-GPS are all there and even Microsoft Exchange Active Sync for good measure.

The Jet’s Dolfin browser now features a one-touch zoom function making it far easier to browse pages, which in conjunction with the ability to view up to five pages simultaneously makes browsing a treat.

Response:

The biggest challenge I had in network marketing was going against the grain of my personality and forcing myself to speak to random people about my business. I was forcing myself to be like a very small portion of the population that has the innate ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. I was much more shy and once I started learning the correct way to market online, my business has really taken off. This was because I didn't have to market to strangers anymore or worry about inserting my business in every conversation I had with people. I was free to let people come to me through my marketing and the people who come to me now are already interested in what I have to offer.

I have time to work with people who are serious about changing their lifestyles. Contact me through my blog at http://GretchenParks.com anytime for a personal call from me.

Giving someone the skills that they need to dominate their company and FINALLY break through to the success that they’re looking for is one of his greatest passions in life. http://www.newmlmtopsecrets.com

Response:

I’m not a car guy.  I have friends who know everything about cars.  They see a car and say, “that a Camry.  There’s a Chevy.  What a great looking Sable.”  (Actually, I can’t imagine anyone saying that.)  I, on the other hand, can tell it’s a car, but not what type unless I’m run over and the emblem is impressed into my forehead.

If you wanted to work in the automobile industry, you would need to work on your car knowledge.  The same is true for your network marketing business, you must know these mlm success tips if you want to be successful in this industry. Your success and growth is not totally dependent on you, but on your team.  This is why it is important that you can offer your highly motivated team these simple, easy to use tips that can be duplicated.

These MLM tips will solidify you as an expert and increase your downline in the next 30 days if you follow them closely.

1. Mindset
If you don’t have the right mindset from the beginning, statistics confirm that you will shut down in the next 63 days.  Everyone starts out with hopes and dreams to create a better future and most end up frustrated and ready to quit when things don’t go the way they thought. You must decide that failure is not an option and that you will not quit. My brother in law is a doctor.  It took him about 9 years and over $200,000 in education to get to where he is now.  With that much invested, I can assure you that he has no intention of quitting.  The same should be true for you.  When you resolve that you will not quit, it’s not a matter of if you are going to succeed, but when.

2. Focus
When you sign up with a particular company, you have to put your blinders on and focus on building that company no matter what anyone else says.  Don’t be a serial entrepreneur and jump from company to company in hopes of a better opportunity.  Go back to why you joined in the first place.  If you believe this company is positioned for success, then you must maintain your focus.  Pursue one company until you’ve gained the results you are looking for.

3. Education
If you want to build your business online, you must learn the methods that suit you best.  If you want to PPC advertising, become a master at it.  If you want to do article marketing, become a master at creating compelling content.  If you interested in free strategies, learn how to master it.  The bottom line is, get educated.

4. System
There are 3 types of individuals you are looking for in network marketing.

Ex-network marketers, current network marketers, people seeking network marketing. Those should be the only people you recruit into your business.  Anyone else is a waste of your time. The way you accomplish recruiting these people is found in the system you use.

These MLM tips, if embraced, will transform your business in the next 30 days. If you want to learn exactly how to succeed from A-Z, visit Ben DeWitt’s blog for more MLM success tips.

Response:

Allow me to offer a couple:

1) I recently purchased 2 amazing deals at a charity media auction - 1) a 10 page website buildout from a local superstar web design company for only $600! worth $2300. Unbelievably no one has bought this from me yet - and i'm not even marking it up, offering it for exactly what I paid for it! 2) a full color, full page ad in a large and popular physicians publication that goes out to over 19,000 Florida doctors offices - for only $900 - again, what I paid for it ($3600 value). BOTH are still available and are completely legit. Why haven't they sold? it's a mystery.

2) Working with vendors/consultants who don't take the same degree of pride their work - but were very affordable and I settled with them being "ok" and "pretty good". NOT a good reflection on me, and a true example of needing to make an investment in trained, committed talented professionals.

3) Bootstrapping my start up company was a good choice for me in so many ways, but I know that I would be ahead in sales  if I had invested in some software/hardware and eucational opportunities up front. Look forward to hearing yours!

Response:

My biggest challenge was in the beginning, about 13 years ago.  There were three simultaneous issues.

             1. I had never worked for myself

             2. I was suddenly being offered Creative Director positions on Madison Ave.  (a long time goal)

             3. I was being offered freelance work for large agencies

I decided that I wanted to explore being in business for myself and take the risks associated with that decision -- financial and other  issues.  So I turned down the Creative Director positions, one of the most difficult things I ever had to do (turning away the achievement of one dream to purse the uncertainty of another). I also did not want to work for other agencies, but wanted to work directly with clients.  That meant less immediate financial gratification and holding out for a longer time until I got those  clients. They came. I never looked back.  It was the best decision I ever made.

Most people don't like or want to employ consultants, with good reason. Many don't add much to the businesses they work with and are interested only in their daily fee being paid.

I set up my business four years ago to deliver high quality strategic advice to businesses who are so busy running their operation that they don't always have time to plan ahead or to understand their unique strengths.

My biggest challenge was (and is) to prove that my business is different from the thousands of other consultant knocking on business owners' doors. I do this by taking a 'blue ocean' approach to my own business that makes it fundamentally different (and I think better) to my competitors. I make a virtue of the fact that I employ experienced businesspeople rather than MBA's and that I sometimes emphasise common sense over analytics.

If other advisers had taken this approach perhaps our banks/blue chips wouldn't be in the position they are now.

Response:

My biggest challenge in building my business has been learning to let go and delegate. It's been a rough road for me. I knew in my head that getting fantastic support around me would help grow my business, but it was so scary to actually let my team take over the day to day tasks.

I have found the key is to surround myself with smart, dynamic, like-minded people, who are really good at what they do.

Resources, Resources and Resources.

The first resource is cash, without which nothing happens. Start small, sell little things to fund the bigger things, then drop the little things.

The second resource is time, there is no limit to the amount of time required to build a business. Just focus. I realised that 80% of my time was doing things that were not building the business, these are the time wasters and dry gullies we need to identify early. Once you get this sorted, eliminating 80% now gives you now 5 times as much time to focus.

The third resource is skills, finding people who can and do what they say they can. There is only one way to get this right, you must be the expert and only delegate what you can do best yourself. That way, you can quickly recognise the quality of other peoples inputs. Spend your own time doing the things you aren't yet good at, learn them well, then delegate those tasks, and so on.

Regards and good luck,

Henry

Consistently marketing repeatedly.

It is hard to continue to do something over and over and not get responses or results for weeks, months, or even a year.

I know folks need to feel familiar with a person or company before they buy.

They may need to interact with you a total of 10 times before they decide to buy.

So I have learned to keep plugging away at finding new customers and make certain I keep my return customers happy.

We also offer the BEST Employee Benefit in North America at no cost and no risk to the employer that reduces absenteeism, increases productivity, and reduces healthcare costs. We service clients in the United States and Canada.

Response:

1.  The "fear" factor, until I realized that I can truly help people and businesses - that my service fills a great void in the North American landscape.  My desire to be a help has more than compensated for the "fear" that we all experience.  Additionally, my clients readily recognize my desire to help, too, making the job much easier.

2.  Learning that you can't say the right thing to the wrong client, you can't say the wrong thing to the right client.  We've learned to present our service and let it do the talking.  A client in need of our service will recognize it immediately and sign up.  For every "no", I am paid an average of $500+ in commissions.  That realization is a real motivator!

Our biggest challenge has been getting ourselves in front of the recruitment consultants we are trying to help.  Our ideal situation would be to go into any large agency, ask for a list of top producers and invite them all to a seminar on how easy it is to set up and run your own recruitment agency... but no agency would let us through the door knowing that they would lose all their top staff!

Our solution is to get our name known in the recruitment industry... little comments, open discussions, using Facebook and LinkedIn... but mainly talking to as many different people as possible and telling them what we do.  It has been slow starting with lots of preparation and planning but we are starting to notice the phone ringing into our office instead of out of it...  But the main thing is for us not to take our eye off the ball for a second and become complacent... or someone else will come into the market place and business will be lost as easily as it is won!

Company Description:
Hi everyone, Thanks for being part of this community. We will visit your website regularly. Let me introduce ourselves. We are two mom's in a small town in Iowa, who wanted to be crafty. We started to upcycle clothing and blankets and made cool new things out of them like gifts, baby clothing, accessories etc. It was so much fun doing this, that a new idea came up and now we have an online store, a store in our town and a work area where people can come to be crafty, have something nice to drink and socialize. Also we'll have workshops for especially children to craft and learn about recycling. We hope to be a non-profit business soon.

Response:

We definitely  have a social purpose.

We like the way we interact, a lot of new ideas came just by talking to each other, even "mommy-issues".

Now we invite other mother's, students and other people who want to do something good for the environment,  share information, be crafty and have something nice to drink ( we will bake something yummy too).

This small business is part of a  building where more (non-Profit) businesses are located to help a community grow and create more interactions in a town like Fairfield. There will be an Art show, a recording studio, a place with computers where especially the younger crowd can hang out, a stage for bands to practice, etc.

Our "Open House"/ opening date will be January 30th, so we hope to see some people who are interested. This company will be a good thing for the future.

Response:

We started Peopleclaim with the idea that there should be a better way to resolve common commercial or consumer disputes without litigation, arbitration or other form complicated and expensive dispute resolution.   The problem of litigation is huge, and impacts nearly every business and consumer in America.    Litigation is estimated to be a $200 Billion plus business, growing at 3 times US GDP.  According to a 2004 study, every American family of four pays an estimated $3,300 annual “tort tax” just for medical malpractice related health care costs.  Just ask anyone who has been though a protracted legal battle- it’s never fun and rarely profitable for either side.

While there will never be a substitute for competent legal counsel and litigation for complex legal disputes, many types of common disputes can be better resolved though direct party to party negotiation.  In fact, it’s estimated that about 92% of every case filed in court, ends up being resolved through negotiated settlement between the parties, as opposed to an adjudicated decision by a judge or jury.  Why?  The answer is simple, litigation is slow, complicated and expensive and the outcome is always uncertain.  Disputing parties usually decide after a year or two of legal bills that making an offer to settle is in both sides best interest.  This has lead to the emergence of mediation practices as many law firms, but mediation can still be expensive and time consuming.

Peopleclaim is a fully automated process of dispute resolution that allows the parties to negotiate a mutually agreeable settlement online, and without the need for lawyers or mediators. The “claimant” engages their claim counter party via an email or physical mail notice on the site  that includes the main issues or events leading up to the dispute, a list of requested resolution terms-e.g. damages, repairs, change in policy etc- outlining what they want to resolve the matter fully, and any supporting documents or exhibits relevant to their claim.

The parties can make offers and counter-offers, ask questions or request more information prior to settlement.  Unresolved claims, post- generally after 14 days on Peopleclaim’s public registry where they can be viewed by search engine users.  Public posting provides an ongoing incentive for settlement by the parties and allows consumers and businesses to view the dispute histories of people or businesses they might want to do business with.  Public posting also allows other parties to offer settlement suggestions to the parties in order to bring an “online consensus view” of the disputes and proposed terms of settlement.

Type: restaurant & bar

Company Description:
Tucked away in the scenic beauty of the Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina, the Gamekeeper is a four diamond restaurant famous for its scrumptious game meats (e.g., ostrich, buffalo, duck, antelope, elk, venison, rattlesnake, and more), the fresh, local and organic seasonal vegetables, and the bourbon-soaked bread pudding. With the help of our devoted and talented staff, the Gamekeeper astonishes its visitors by providing them with the finest modern mountain cuisine, an extensive wine list, and a friendly and attentive atmosphere. The Gamekeeper has steadily grown since we purchased the restaurant in 2000. In fact, the restaurant has become so popular that our guests request souvenirs, recipes, and even catering services. In the near future, we would like to be able to provide full catering services and even a cookbook or two. Because the fall season is our busiest time of the year, be sure to make your reservations early so that you can reserve a table or private room.

Response:
As for a social purpose, we make it a habit to purchase produce that is locally and organically grown as well as meats that are humanely farm-raised.  We are members of the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, Appalachian Sustainable Agricultural Project, New River Organic Growers Association, Humane Farming Association, Watauga County Humane Society, The Carter Center, and Appalachian State Park Council.  Every year the Gamekeeper hosts the High Country Conservancy Wine tasting in which proceeds go towards land trusts that are created in order to prevent the overdevelopment of the Appalachian Mountains.
